- You need 1 of Oil.
- It's 1 of Salt.
Plantains can be prepared in several different ways, but this recipe for tostones is one of the quickest and easiest methods. It's a good recipe for beginners who are trying their hands at cooking plantains for the first time, so even if you've never laid eyes on a plantain before, you can give it an almost fail-safe try. Patacones (Basic) instructions
- Peel and cut plantain in small rounds of about 1/8 in thickness.
- Place plantain slices into a small amount of oil (I use medium-low) and cook both sides lightly. You want them semisoft on the top and bottom..
- Take the slices from the oil and smash them flat. I generally use some wax paper for this part to keep them from sticking to surfaces..
- Place them back into the oil and cook until light brown. Remove & let any oil drain on a paper towl. Add salt while still hot..
